Grindelia squarrosaWho doesn't like gumweed!? Nature's Lego! I'd bet that kids have played with the heads for hundreds of generations in North America. My mom tells good stories about her and her brother making little structures out of the heads in the coulees when they were kids.
Tripsacum dactyloidesJust a neat plant overall. Took me a while to wrap my brain around the overall look and structure from the provided closeup photos. Can't say I've encountered that one out in the wild.
Bouteloua gracilisProbably my favourite grass. I had much more detailed grass sketches but I had to include this one out of principle. A true mascot for the grasslands of Alberta.
Cercocarpos ledifoliusAnother neat plant. I found the overall structure and look very interesting and it was very time consuming to get a representative sketch.
Arctostaphylos uva-ursiOne of my favourite plants here in Alberta. Seems to be everywhere if you know where to look.

Project Description
Artist Statement/Bio: Since all of our plant ID was online this year I found it very helpful to redraw all of the species to learn the features, instead of flipping through thousands of photos. I drew pictures like these for all of the tested plants using photos provided by my instructor/coach and online botanical sketches and photos. Took hundreds of hours but it was a very rewarding process, and I believe it was key to the study process and my success in the course.
